The development of the Obsidian involved extensive research and engineering to meet the stringent standards of seafaring. Feadship reveals that the yacht’s engines are powered by a special diesel called HVO, resulting in emissions that are 90 percent lower than similar vessels running on regular petrol.
The Obsidian features diesel-electric propulsion units paired with high-capacity power storage systems. Modified Caterpillar C32 engines are connected to a 4.5 MWh battery bank, allowing the hybrid super yacht to cruise at up to 10 knots on electric power alone, with a range of 35 nautical miles. Additionally, the yacht can operate its hotel load for up to 15 hours when idle, thanks to its impressive power supply.
With its sleek outline and optimal cruising capabilities, the Obsidian promises an exceptional experience on the open seas.
