Luxury Handbag Trends for Fall/Winter 2021

Fall is upon us, and you know what that means – it’s time to reexamine your wardrobe entirely. The cooler months allow us to wear a greater variety of garments and accessories, and in many ways, this is a relief. After all, only so many combinations are possible when you wear fewer (and less substantial) clothes in the summer heat. The coming Fall/Winter season gives us the opportunity to play around with a wider range of garments.

But we can’t forget accessories, either. The coming season brings a number of innovative and surprising trends, and you need to be aware of these developments if you’re shopping for a new handbag. The last thing you want is to brave the Fall weather while clutching a handbag that is decidedly outdated.

Texture is the Name of the Game

Make sure your next handbag boasts textural elements if you want to stay one step ahead of the curve this year. Suede is definitely in this season, as are many other thick, luscious fabrics. Choose neutral color palettes, such as espresso or latte. Chanel, Saint Laurent, and Fendi are all following this trend closely. Fuzzy fabrics also provide plenty of texture, and they evoke a more youthful, playful approach to handbag fashion. We’ve definitely seen plenty of fuzzy handbags from brands like Prada this year.

Play with Sizes

Fall/Winter 2021 is proving to be a season of polar opposites. When it comes to choosing the right size for your new bag, you might want to opt for the extremes. On the smaller end of the spectrum, so-called “phone bags” have proven incredibly popular. These bags hold little more than your smartphone, and they allow you to shed a lot of added weight and bulk that you might be familiar with when lugging around a typical bag.

On the complete other side of the equation, oversized bags are also trending this year. Extra-large totes were spotted on the runway, and these oversized options are big enough to fit laptops and other bulky items. Bottega Veneta’s Intrecciato Suede Tote is a prime example of this.

Bowler Bags are Back In

The bowler bag has been making a comeback since 2019, with brands like Prada leading the charge. Today, that trend is still gathering steam, and many other designers are following suit. As the name suggests, a bowler bag mimics the silhouette of a bowling bag, for a simple yet undeniably chic aesthetic. The best part about this trend is that it’s evidently here to stay, which means your handbag choice will stay in style for many seasons to come.
