72° and Sunshine

It’s no secret Los Angeles is home to some of the world’s top real estate properties. With over 75 miles of pristine coastline, countless scenic San Gabriel Mountain peaks and dozens of city-pockets rich with history and unique architecture, Los Angeles real estate has always been the enduring incentive for millions to uproot from their hometowns and settle in this western land of 72° and sunshine.

Contrary to popular belief, not every day in LA is filled with sunshine, but that doesn’t mean everyone can’t IMAGINE what it’s like to live in the City of Angels. Our world is a big and beautiful place, with several climates, populations, and real estate sectors similar to Los Angeles. Hills Views & Valleys is here to help you IMAGINE your LA dream home, and even help you discover where to find it.

First things first: what is the weather really like in Los Angeles?

72 degrees and always sunny has become LA’s mantra, but, scientifically speaking, (Köppen Climate Classification) Los Angeles is categorized as a Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers, and cooler, wetter winters. While Los Angeles residents typically experience a dry-summer, LA receives lower annual precipitation and rain than most typical Mediterranean climates. Anyone who lived in LA this past winter found themselves in the wettest LA winter in over 130-years, finally ending a 7-year plus long drought. As a result, Los Angeles finds its doppelgänger in closer proximity to oceans and deserts, but that doesn’t mean these locations are anywhere close by. IMAGINE…

Santiago, Chile

According to the Köppen climate classification, which is largely regarded as the world’s top climate analysis, Santiago, Chile, has the most similar climate to that of Los Angeles. The climate is mild all year, with long arid summers and winters of Mediterranean patterns. The two cities are less than 6,000 miles apart in completely different hemispheres. Santiago is the proud capital of Chile, its largest city, with a population of 5-million and the largest sector of industry for the country.

Similar to Los Angles, Santiago lives and breathes a rich Latino culture. Exploring the city streets will lead you to discover beautiful and original neighborhoods, art galleries, hand-craft markets and the many different cultural hubs of Santiago. Tourists from all parts of the globe head to Bellavista for the city’s bohemian restaurants, before heading to San Cristobal Hill to explore urban natural areas of this metropolitan park. Los Angeles is built outward not upward, and the same can be said for Santiago. While the city harbors a metropolis with large skyscrapers and neoclassical landmarks, Santiago is infused with a rich ecosystem of palm trees and natural beauty. In fact, the backdrop of this beautiful city are the magnificent Andes Mountains, making Santiago a photographer’s paradise and perfect get away for nature lovers.

Do you want a city with LA weather large enough to explore new parts every day for the rest of your life? Do you want a home in a city with a rich Latino culture and a creative population pumping with energy? Do you want all of those things situated below the beautiful Andes Mountains? Welcome to Santiago. IMAGINE.

Adelaide, (Southern) Australia

Adelaide, Australia is the most Los Angeles city you’ve probably never heard of — until now. Like the rest of the LA-centric cities, Adelaide is classified by the Köppen climate classification as a Mediterranean climate, with a cool to mild winter and a hot, dry summer. Adelaide has an average annual temperature of 73 degrees. Sound familiar?

Adelaide’s summer lasts from December to February, its most popular months to visit and the opposite climate to its LA counterpart; however, these two opposites attract in a myriad of other ways.

Adelaide is known for its outdoor lifestyle, and sports, fitness, and coastal activities are a big draw to Adelaide living. Locals and adventurers alike grab their surfboards and head to Middleton Beach, for Adelaide’s famous breakwater. Much like Los Angeles, Adelaide garners a rich international community. Students from around the world study abroad in Southern Australia, and — like in Los Angeles — they are spending their free time on the beaches or in the city’s nature areas. Adelaide may be most renowned for its proximity to Kangaroo Island, an internationally renowned wildlife haven.

One aspect Casablanca and Los Angeles have in common is their economic ports. Casablanca is the chief port of Morocco, and brings in huge capital of trade to North Africa. The Port of Los Angeles is one of the busiest in the world, bringing in massive amounts of capital to North America. The ports provide locals with thousands of jobs and a rich trade center of global goods.
